Contract Part-time Office Assistant

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY The Resource Center of the Americas informs, educates and organizes to promote human rights, economic justice, democratic participation, and cross cultural understanding in the context of globalization in the Americas.

LOCATION
Minneapolis near Lake Street and Minnehaha

POSITION TYPE & COMPENSATION
$13.5/hr
This is an Independent Contractor position. While we believe the position will persist indefinitely as a 15/hour week position, we are a dynamic organization with needs that are quickly shifting as we work through a strategic planning process.

SCHEDULE
15 hours/week
Work days/times during regular business hours but scheduling is flexible

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Constituent data entry in Raiser’s Edge
  • Publish weekly e-mail event update
  • Program and host Coffee Hours and Movie Nights
  • Provide backup support to Education Coordinator in administering Spanish language program
  • Volunteer recruitment
  • Publicity
  • Data entry
  • General office cleanliness
  • Special event management
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or working on completion
  • At least 1-2 years of professional office experience (may include internships)
  • Written/verbal Spanish language proficiency
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice issues
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office suite including experience with basic formulas in Excel
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Publisher
  • Hands-on experience with Internet search, social networking, HTML-based emails, e-mail blast tools such as Constant Contact, online donation tools such as Network for Good, and other current Internet technologies
  • Ability to work independently with high level objectives and minimal supervision
  • High attention to detail
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with constant change and shifting priorities
  • Positive attitude and team spirit

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years non-profit administrative experience
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Raiser’s Edge or similar software
  • Creating reports, queries, mail merges, etc using database and MS Office tools

Internships

We currently have no open intern positions. We apologize that we will not be able to respond to every inquiry due to limited resources.Interns and fellows play a critical role in carrying out the programs of the Resource Center. We aim to create positive learning experiences for interns while advancing meaningful programs. Check back here for openings as we approach the next school semester.

Internships Follow the Academic Calendar

  • Spring Semester: Mid-January to mid-May
  • Summer Term: Mid-June through August
  • Fall Semester: September through December
  • J-Term (generally private schools): 3 weeks in January

Intership Structure

  • Spring, Summer and Fall interns work a minimum of 80 hours, spread evenly across the internship period, and preferably in 4 to 8 hour blocks of time
  • J-Term interns work full-time for 3 weeks
  • Work generally takes place during standard work hours, yet some work will take place evenings and weekends; flexibility is desirable
  • Internships are unpaid
